I still remember the first time I loaded up this game on a dusty school computer back in the day. The teacher was droning on about math. Ironically, that is exactly how Riddle School starts. This classic point-and-click adventure captured the hearts of millions during the golden era of Flash gaming. If you love quirky humor, quick-witted puzzles, and a highly satisfying escape story, you are in the right place.

What is the story behind Riddle School?

You play as Phil Eggtree. Phil is a kid with a very simple goal. He wants to get out of school because it is incredibly boring. He has to sit through a class called 'Mathness' taught by a teacher who does not even know what 3 + 0 equals.

To escape, you must guide Phil out of his classroom. Then you have to navigate the hallways. You will interact with strange classmates and tricky teachers. The writing is sharp and full of early 2000s internet humor. It does not take itself too seriously. That is exactly what makes it so charming.

• Check your inventory: Once you pick up an item, click on it in your inventory menu at the bottom to prime it for use on objects in the room.

Why did Riddle School Game Become a Classic?

It took the creator only three weeks to build this game. It has 99 library items and 7 unique characters. The original plan for the game was actually much darker. It was supposed to involve characters from Madness Combat, weapons, and lots of cartoon violence.

Thankfully, the developer went with a lighthearted comedic approach instead. They only kept one tiny reference to the original plan. If you look closely at the blackboard in the starting room, you can see the word 'Mathness' written on it. This clean, funny puzzle style set the stage for an entire franchise of sequel games.
